South Padre Island

Our neighbor across the bridge, South Padre Island is a major beach destination. This barrier island off the Texas Coast is known for its miles of sandy beaches perfect for walking or play. South Padre Island is home to sea turtle rescue foundation Sea Turtle, Inc. This facility is a great place to tour and learn more about our endangered sea turtles. Another location of interest is the South Padre Island Birding and Nature Center which has wonderful boardwalks and birding information. Visitors also enjoy wonderful events on South Padre Island such as Friday night fireworks, Sandcastle Days, BikeFest, The Christmas Parade, Lighting of the Island, and sporting events. Brownsville

The city of Brownsville is 15 minutes away from Port Isabel. Its features include the Port of Brownsville, Valley Vista Mall, various shopping areas and restaurants. Guests enjoy a visit to the Gladys Porter Zoo. The Gladys Porter Zoo is an oasis nestled in the center of Brownsville, Texas. With 26 acres of lush tropical plants and some 1,600 animals, the Gladys Porter Zoo is known for its successes in breeding endangered species of wildlife. Brownsville is the closest International Bridge crossing to Mexico.

 

Laguna Vista

This community is home to the South Padre Island Golf Club and the nearest golf course. It is also the gateway to the Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge. This Refuge is an important habitat in our unique area. It shelters several endangered species including the Ocelot. Visitors may drive, hike, bike or even kayak in this special piece of land.
