Port Isabel Shrimp Cookoff & Seafood Festival! Minimize

Curbside Shrimp Cook-Off & Seafood Festival, Scheduled for November 3rd-7th, 2020!

The 27th Annual Shrimp Cookoff & Seafood Festival will feature a new concept, exciting changes and safety practices designed to ensure the health and wellness of our participating restaurants and hungry shrimp lovers.

The event will be a five day event and will bring customers directly to each restaurant instead of a one-day, offsite, large gathering. Restaurants will each offer one shrimp sample curbside and may offer a second seafood sample as well. Each sample will be priced at $5, tax inclusive. Hours for curbside service will be 11 am to 5 pm, Tuesday, Nov. 3 through Saturday, Nov. 7. The extension of dates of sampling will allow customers ample time to visit each participating restaurant over the five day period. Winners will be determined by the votes of the people and will be announced on Facebook, Sunday afternoon. There is no charge to the public other than the costs of samples at each restaurant.

"Covid-19 has forced all of us to become more creative in how we live our lives," says Port Isabel Chamber of Commerce Board Chairperson Laura Caudillo. " We wanted to continue our 27 year tradition of celebrating our outstanding seafood and also support our local restaurants during these challenging times. The curbside concept allows everyone to enjoy this unique dining experience . With the new concept, the Chamber will literally be driving traffic to restaurants' front doors."

An extensive social media, print and electronic campaign will promote the Shrimp Cookoff and will begin in October. Participants will be able to pick up or download menus, locator maps and other information about the restaurants and their samplings. Individual Peoples' Choice cards must be dropped off at the Chamber Office no later than 6 pm on Nov.7 and will determine the First, Second and Third Place winners. Custom awards will be presented to the winners on Sunday, Nov. 8 and will be featured on Facebook and other media outlets.

More details on the event will be posted on the Chamber's Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts. For more information, contact the Chamber office at (956) 943-2262 or email Chamber President, Betty Wells at director@portisabel.org.
