Q: When is the 25th Annual Longest Causeway Run & Wellness Walk?
A: Saturday, January 10, 2009. The run starts at 10:00 a.m. and the Walk starts at 10:15 a.m.
Q: How long is the run?
A: 10K (6.2 miles)
Q: When is the latest I can register for the event:
A: Saturday morning, no later than 9:00 a.m. SHARP, at the Port Isabel Community Center.
Q: Where is Friday night's registration?
A: Port Isabel Community Center. From 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Q: Is the run officiated?
A: The run is officiated by professionals from IAAP Associates of San Antonio.
Q: Is this a certified event?
A: It is Texas Track and Field Certified. The certification number is TX98061ETM.
Q: Are trophies awarded to overall winners?
A: Yes, trophies are awarded to overal male and female winners.
Q: Is there prize money?
A: Yes, prize money is awarded to the first three places in both male and female categories. $1,000 for first place, $600 for second place and $400 for third place.
Q: Are there winners in other categories?
A: Yes, trophies are presented to the first three places for both men and women in each of twelve age categories for a total of 24 awards.
Q: Where is the Awards Ceremony?
A: Louies Backyard on South Padre Island.
Q: Is there a cash award?
A: Yes, there is a cash award to overall first three places in both the male and female categories.
Q: How long is the walk?
A: The walk is a three mile participation only event and ends at the Father Balli statue on South Padre Island. Though walkers can finish the entire 6.2 mile course if they wish to do so.
Q: Are pets allowed on the Walk / Run?
A: Pets are NOT allowed.
Q: If I walk, how can I get to the Awards Ceremony?
A: There is transportation available from the end of the walk course to Louies Backyard.
Q: Is there transportation from the Awards Ceremony back to Port Isabel?
A: Transportation will be provided from the Awards Ceremony back to Port Isabel.
Q: How many people participated in 2008's event?
A: A total of 2,781 walkers and runners participated the 24rd annual.
Q: Do I get a free t-shirt?
A: T-shirts are given to the first 2,000 registrants to check in at the Port Isabel Chamber office or at the Port Isabel Community Center before the race/walk.
Q: When can I pick up my pre-registration packet?
A: Participants may pick up their packages at the Port Isabel Chamber of Commerce office the week of the event at 421 E. Queen Isabella Blvd., or at late registration on Friday, Jan. 9 from 3:00-7:00 pm or Saturday, Jan. 10 from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. SHARP at the Port Isabel Community Center, located at 213 Yturria in Port Isabel. For more information, contact the Chamber office at (956) 943-2262. The Chamber office is open Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm and Saturdays from 10 am – 4 pm. The Port Isabel Chamber office will be closed at 12 noon on Friday, January 9th.
